FeedbackFans.com With the Save: Adding an Admin to Your WordPress Database via MySQL
Locked out of your WordPress admin dashboard? No worries—FeedbackFans.com is here to help! If you need to add an admin user directly to your WordPress database using MySQL, follow these steps to regain access.
Step 1: Access phpMyAdmin
- Log in to your hosting account and open phpMyAdmin.
- Select the database associated with your WordPress site from the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Add a New User in the wp_users Table
- Locate the
wp_userstable (your table prefix may vary, e.g.,wp_orcustomprefix_). - Click Insert at the top of the table.
- Fill in the following fields:
- ID: Enter a unique number not already in use.
- user_login: Choose a username for the new admin.
- user_pass: Enter a password and select MD5 in the function column to encrypt it.
- user_nicename: Add a nickname for the user.
- user_email: Provide an email address.
- user_registered: Set the registration date and time.
- user_status: Set this to
0. - display_name: Enter the name you want displayed publicly.
- Click Go to save.
Step 3: Assign Admin Privileges in the wp_usermeta Table
- Open the
wp_usermetatable in the same database. - Click Insert and add the following:
- user_id: Use the same ID you entered in the
wp_userstable. - meta_key: Enter
wp_capabilities(replacewp_with your table prefix if different). - meta_value: Add this value:
a:1:{s:13:"administrator";s:1:"1";}.
- user_id: Use the same ID you entered in the
- Click Go to save.
- Insert another row with:
- user_id: Same as above.
- meta_key: Enter
wp_user_level(adjust prefix if needed). - meta_value: Set this to
10.
- Click Go again.
Step 4: Log In
You can now log in to your WordPress dashboard using the new username and password you created. If the login page isn’t working, you may need to troubleshoot that separately.
